A search to find a way to relax and destress from the demands of a teaching career, combined with a passion for vintage fashion led to owner, Hayley, visiting a vintage clothes fair in 2014. Her keen interest in the unmatched style of swing dresses from the 1950’s to 1960’s developed into trading at vintage fairs with just a tiny, fold-up table and a single rail of frocks. With her popularity and reputation for selling quality vintage inspired clothing growing, Hayley soon expanded into larger vintage festivals.
Just four years on from that initial interest, in March 2018, Hayley opened Frocks in Swing Time, her new shop in Fore Street. She has now been joined by her Sister and Stepmother, creating a unique family-run business offering a wide range of vintage style clothing & accessories in sizes 6-26 for ladies and children’s clothing from new-born to age 12.
Frocks in Swing Time now has a loyal band of regular customers that are increasing in number as more and more women are choosing to wear vintage outfits to special occasions like weddings or proms. By sourcing her stock from 15 suppliers, many of whom are based in the UK or even closer to home in the South-West, customers can select a uniquely designed dress, reassured by the fact it is limited edition and is unavailable at the larger stores. The risk of someone wearing the same outfit at an event is eliminated, allowing the customer to enjoy the admiration she will doubtless receive.
Hayley and her family believe clothes shopping should be an amazing and pleasurable experience, so much so that only dresses Hayley would be happy to wear herself are stocked. Many customers compare the level of service provided to having their own personal shopper each time they return for another visit.
Already looking to the future, a loyalty club for regular customers is planned, which will be another incentive to pop in for a chat about all things vintage and enjoy browsing through the beautiful range at Frocks in Swing Time.
