Exeter’s Elizabethan bakers produced the staple food that everyone depended on, whether wealthy merchant or poor relief recipient. Dr Kate Osborne will explain how she created individual biographies for over 70 Tudor bakers from local archival sources. She will describe their daily life, family connections, homes and family businesses, and the issues that affected their busy working lives – from difficult millers to delivery methods. Kate recently completed her PhD on Elizabethan Exeter at the University of Exeter. This is the first of several talks on local Elizabethan life.
