Devon Youth Orchestras and guests present a concert of exciting and beautiful music for a summer evening performed by Devon’s leading young musicians.

The programme will range from choral items to epic orchestral works and film scores with music to suit all ages and tastes.  It will also feature a new work to commemorate the centenary of the end of WW1.

The 2 Devon Youth Orchestras have been run independently by Paul Painter since 2010.

The Concert Orchestra (DYCO) is aimed at approximately Grade 3 standard upwards. There is no audition as players are invited to try it for themselves. The repertoire includes film themes, light classics and any music which will appeal to young orchestral players.

The Symphony Orchestra (DYSO) is for Grade 6 standard players upwards and will play more demanding music including suitable movements from symphonies, orchestral suites and interesting works from a range of musical periods.

Both orchestras, currently numbering almost 100 players, have monthly rehearsals throughout the year as well as an inclusive 3-day residential for each at Buckfast Abbey. We perform regularly at events such as the Devon County Show and, alongside our regular sectional coaching, work with a range of locally and nationally-recognised musicians including members of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and BBC orchestras.
