Country houses, traditionally defined as large houses accompanied by an estate, are flourishing in Devon. Some 200 remain privately owned, many by the families who built them. Others have been adapted to new uses and are no longer reliant on an agricultural economy. Hugh Meller, previously the National Trust’s Curator in Devon, will examine the various options.
