Meet the archaeologists – Get hands on with some of the finds that are rewriting the archaeology of Exeter and meet experts from the Exeter: A Place in Time project.
A massive research project has spent three years studying Exeter’s archaeology and using new scientific techniques to analyse RAMM’s collections. Exeter is one of the most archaeologically-studied English cities but a large number of new scientific techniques have been developed since the main excavations in the 1970s and 1980s. The Exeter: a Place in Time project is exploring the development of the city from a Roman fortress and town, through to its emergence as a major medieval trading centre.
The project is a collaboration between RAMM, the Universities of Exeter and Reading, Cotswold Archaeology and Exeter City Council. It is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and Historic England.
