A former Turner Prize-nominee, George Shaw has been the National Gallery artist in residence since 2014. This exhibition is the culmination of the past two years work.
Almost 50 new paintings and drawings inspired by the National Gallery’s collection will be on display. George Shaw has unlimited access to the collection and his subjects include woodland landscapes, religion and the clash of cultures. He also draws on the behaviour portrayed in classical stories linking it with the equivalent in the modern world.
Shaw is renowned for his highly detailed approach to suburban subject matter, and for his unusual choice of medium – Humbrol enamel paint, which is typically used to colour model trains and aeroplanes.
