Veteran Austrian filmmaker, Michael Haneke (The White Ribbon) returns to the big screen after five years with this deliciously dark comedy drama about a well off French family living in a bourgeois bubble in Northern France, completely oblivious to the human misery of the refugee crisis unfolding on their doorstep.
Though set in Calais, Happy End never shows ‘the jungle’. Haneke instead paints a sardonic yet compassionate morality about how life is experienced by the complacently well-off Europeans.
