The annual Local Art Show gives art groups and societies from Exeter and the surrounding area the chance to display their members’ work in an exhibition at RAMM.
The theme for the 2019 competition is Migration, the museum’s over-arching theme for the year.
Exmouth Art Group’s secretary, Catherine Ager, expressed the group’s joy: “There was a collective shout of delight from members of Exmouth Art Group (and several Yipee’s, WOW’s and WoHoo’s) when it was announced they were the winners of the 2019 Local Art Show Competition. We are extremely proud to have been given this amazing opportunity to exhibit in such a prestigious gallery and are looking forward to showcasing our diverse responses to the ‘Migration’ theme. Our wholehearted thanks go to RAMM, Devon Live, the Express and Echo and of course the public for supporting this wonderful initiative.
Rachel Sutton, Exeter’s Lead Councillor for Economy and Culture, explains the aims of the competition “With the annual Local Art Show we aim to recognise, reward and foster creativity in the city. We hope that the Migration theme of the 2019 competition will inspire art groups in Devon to once again produce stunning work and another memorable exhibition. Following six-year’s support by the Express & Echo, this year’s sponsorship is by their digital sister, Devon Live. We are grateful for their support.
Previous winners are: Double Elephant Print Workshop (2017), Flying Colours (2016), Topsham Art Group (2015), Sense (2014), Hive Art Group (2013) and Fairstream Arts (2012).
