Spindle Ensemble Concert

Friday, 14 October 2022 - Friday, 14 October 2022
8pm-10:30pm
Exeter Library

A special performance from Bristol’s acclaimed Spindle Ensemble, live at Exeter Library

Spindle Ensemble are one the UK’s leading contemporary chamber quartets. Their critically acclaimed second album Inkling was released on vinyl in 2021 by Hidden Notes Records and listed by The Guardian as one of the top ten contemporary albums of the year.

The ensemble is led by pianist/harpist, composer and producer Daniel Inzani, who is joined by tuned percussionist Harriet Riley (Paraorchestra, Hannah Peel) on marimba and vibraphone, violinist Caelia Lunniss (Tera Coda) and cellist Jo Silverston (Mesadorm).

Since their formation in 2016 they have garnered much praise for their innovative take on contemporary classical music, rooted in spontaneity and improvisation performed with deft musicianship and unique instrumental pairing all resulting in truly captivating sonic soundscapes.

Their compositions are highly evocative and create a transportive narrative for the listener, who’ll hear elements of the classical impressionist era championed by Maurice Ravel, hints of jazz akin to Charles Mingus and a contrapuntal style influenced by American composer Moondog.

The quartet are equally at home performing in concert halls such as the Union Chapel, the Southbank Centre, Bristol Beacon, St Georges Bristol and festivals including Shambala and Hidden Notes to churches, art centres, record shops and independent venues across the UK as they continue to bring their music to a diverse and ever growing audience.
