Advent is a season of expectation and preparation, as the Church prepares to celebrate the coming (adventus) of Christ in his incarnation, and also looks ahead to his final advent as judge at the end of time.

The readings at this service pick up on the theme of waiting with expectation for the Christ who will surely come to us in love, as foretold by the Hebrew prophets. Towards the end of the service, the congregation’s carols will be lit, representing our readiness to receive Christ the light of the world.

Music is led by the Cathedral Choir, and includes works by Bach, Palestrina, Ledger, Byrd and our own Director of Music Timothy Noon.
