Beacons, Icons and Dykons presents an evening of performance inspired by and featuring the best moments from musical spectacular The Wiz. (Sidney Lumet, 1978)
Starring Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Richard Pryor, the film retells the classic tale of the Wizard of Oz with an African American cast, where the Land of Oz is a fantasy version of New York City.
A host of BID’s favourites will punctuate the evening with performance as we show the film’s best moments. Performers include Owen Ridley-DeMonick, a dancer whose critiques representation of the black body within film and entertainment, dazzling drag queen Carbon Monoxide and professional show-off Steve Nice, Paula Varjack who explores identity, the unsaid, and making the invisible visible and BID’s very own Tom Marshman.
