The ethos at Chandos Deli is clear – good food, plain and simple. The independent speciality food retailer and eatery, located in Exeter’s Princesshay, serves up exciting and authentic produce that is anything but plain and simple.
For this week’s #FindItInExeter we caught up with Russell, the Exeter branch manager, to discover more about the delicious deli with a dedicated following.
Russell arrived at Chandos Deli only a year and a half ago. However, he has worked in hospitality since the age of 16, when he was first introduced to the world of fine food at an AA Rosette awarded establishment. Jump forward to today and Chandos Deli is the perfect place to continue shouting about quality food and drink.
Chandos Deli is all about real food and real people. They are passionate about authentic food and drink and are renowned for sourcing it from all over the world. Both local and imported, their offering includes farmhouse cheeses, charcuterie, fresh bread, croissants, oils, vinegars, pasta, homemade cakes, artisan chocolate, biscuits, coffee and tea, preserves, chutneys, olives, savoury tarts, award-winning sandwiches, salads, fine wines, beer and champagne! The Chandos team truly do go the extra mile for the best.
Chandos Deli was established in Bristol, with the Exeter branch opening in 2007. This branch not only stocks many of the products that the team have spent the last ten or so years tasting, but it has also proven itself to be one of the go-to lunch destinations in Exeter – whether that’s eat-in or take-out. It has firmly made its mark on the food culture of the city.
At Chandos Deli you can refuel whilst sipping on really good coffee, nibbling on their inhouse baker’s traybakes, or biting into one of their delicious freshly-made baguettes – how about chorizo, cheddar and sweet mustard or cured salami and goats’ cheese? But don’t take too long to decide, it’s common knowledge that the deli sells out most days!
Customers no doubt return time and time again because of the five core friendly faces that front Chandos Deli, a personal touch that is now so rare to find on the high street.
So, if you haven’t already, next time you are in Exeter and it hits lunch o’clock head straight to Chandos Deli.
Fun fact: Did you know, when you order your americano or flat white from Chandos Deli you are in fact ordering a ‘cup of excellence’? The deli’s single origin coffee beans, that are roasted by Wogan Coffee in Bristol, have been awarded the accolade of ‘Top 1% of Rated Coffees in the World’ – that’s pretty hard to beat!
