For this week’s Find It in Exeter we stepped back to another era, and visited Hayley of Frocks In Swing Time, and chatted all things vintage.
Situated on Fore Street, this fabulous emporium of retro-inspired delights is fresh on Exeter’s independent scene, having only just opened in March of this year.
Hayley, the owner, is a passionate advocate of all things vintage. She began Frocks in Swing Time as a modest vintage fair stall, which grew into a not-so modest vintage festival stall, then a pop-up shop concept and now finally her show-stopper, red-painted retail space in Exeter.
Stepping into Frocks in Swing Time you are instantly transported to an era of glamour and style, longing for victory rolls and a splash of red lipstick to appear.
With a predominately 1940s and 1950s inspired collection, Hayley stocks a beautiful, modern-made selection of dresses, coats, skirts, knitwear, high-waisted trousers, shoes, handbags, alongside genuine vintage jewellery, that can transform you into Doris Day in no time.
With nearly twenty brands stocked in Frocks in Swing Time, Hayley provides a personal shopping experience to remember. Whether you are after a complete head to toe look or just something in between, Hayley will take delight in styling you for any occasion; formal or every day.
Hayley’s final words from our conversation this week is a fabulous piece of advice we would happily take note, especially on today’s stormy day:
“If you need to brighten a glum day, pop a petticoat on underneath a dress and enjoy the sheer indulgence of twirling around and dancing like nobody is watching.”
It’s as simple as that.
So, pop a swing dress on, a dash of lipstick, and dance the lindy hop – but be warned, prepare yourself for countless compliments.
