Be whisked away to exotic Thailand without having to leave the city with a visit to Jasmine. The Fore Street independent restaurant located in the heart of Exeter, fuses fine dining with Thai cuisine.
Jasmine has been serving a quality Thai menu to the residents of Exeter and beyond for eight years. Behind its white façade is a stylish interior, which provides an even more sophisticated dining experience. For this week’s #FinditinExeter we met with Tom, the owner, and Carl, the general manager, to discover why their Thai restaurant is described by so many of its regular customers as ‘Exeter’s best kept secret’.
Jasmine’s menu is freshly prepared each day by its team of five chefs, all of which were professionally trained in Thailand. The menu is filled with traditional Thai dishes that have a modern twist using the finest ingredients. This includes ethically sourced, Devon free-range beef, pork and chicken, alongside a vast offering for other dietary requirements including their delicious vegan set menu.
If you are new to Thai cuisine, or just new to Jasmine, the restaurant’s team is always on hand to guide you through the menu. The top four introductory recommendations are the following delicious dishes: Green Thai Curry, or the street food classics Pad Thai, Kra Paow or the intriguing Drunken Noodles, a spicy stir fry dish which is the ultimate late-night grub. If you can’t decide between all the amazing dishes, order a mixed platter – a combination of five starters served on one large sharing plate, perfect for a shared starter or a solo main. If your taste buds can’t handle the heat, there are also plenty of incredibly flavoursome mild options.
Visit Jasmine in the day and choose from their lunchtime menu: a pared down version of their evening menu, which includes the new Thai Tapas’ – a set menu which includes four small dishes that give you the taste of Asia, or alternatively you can take advantage of the two courses for £13 deal. Or head to Jasmine in the evening and you can choose from their large a la carte menu.
With so much quality food, we can’t forget the drinks menu. Jasmine not only has Singha on tap, and brews coffee grown and roasted from an independent farm in Thailand, but the entire cocktail menu has a Thai twist. What about a Thai Basil Mojito? It mixes fresh Thai basil with made-in-house Thai basil syrup, lime and rum. Or a Rawai Delight? It contains sticky rice rum, Kahlua and a dash of sweet coconut cream.
