Olá! A brand-new restaurant has arrived in Exeter, where every time you visit, you’ll feel like you must have hopped on a plane and landed on holiday. The Cork and Tile on Gandy Street is a Portuguese Café and Wine Bar, serving up a delicious and authentic menu created by Portuguese mother and son duo, Anna and Ricardo.
For this week’s #FinditinExeter we caught up with Neil, the manager, to discover why Exeter’s only Portuguese restaurant is a beautiful go-to space for dining, drinking, chatting and having a wonderful time in the city.
Whether it’s for a brunch, lunch, coffee and pastry break, or a sumptuous dinner, head to The Cork and Tile for a taste of Northern Portugal. Their menu is filled with traditional dishes, including pastéis de nata (egg custard tart), petiscos (Portugal’s tapas equivalent and the perfect bar food), tabuas (sharing platters), an array of authentic seafood main meals and a children’s menu. Many of the pastries, alongside the entire dessert and main menu, is made in house by chefs Anna and Ricardo. The Portuguese nation’s passion for seafood shines through this eatery’s refined menu.
It’s not only food that The Cork and Tile excels in, there bar is stocked with Portuguese spirits and quality wines, with Portuguese based cocktails coming soon.
The Cork and Tile’s beautiful, understated interior is a delight to sit in, and gives you a real flavour of Lisbon’s restaurant scene. The use of classic Portuguese hand painted tiles and pure cork accessories, that are in fact sourced from Beech Products right here in Exeter, add to the vacation vibe. This relaxed restaurant fits perfectly in with Gandy Street’s quirky ambience.
Whether you are Portuguese yourself, have travelled there or have never been, be sure to make a trip to The Cork and Tile and immerse yourself in the laid-back culture of this nation. You will be greeted warmly by Neil and his team.
Keep your eyes peeled, in September they are also hoping to run Portuguese classes for any aspiring bilinguals!
The Cork and Tile is located at 15 Gandy Street, and is open 10am – 11pm serving food and drink all day every day.
