InExeter joins forces with Hospiscare this Christmas

This year Exeter will celebrate the start of the Christmas season with a special five-day event series, Five Nights of Lights.  Taking place across the city from 13-17 November, the festive event will see the Christmas lights go live in all quarters of the city, along with street entertainment, live music and one-off events.

For 2019, InExeter has teamed up with local charity, Hospiscare, to support the charity’s annual Light up a Life campaign, which offers friends and family a way of remembering people during the festive period.

InExeter aims to highlight the Hospiscare tree at Exeter Cathedral.  The tree is swathed with hundreds of white lights representing the people who are remembered in Hospiscare’s Light up a Life book of memories. The tree is situated outside the main entrance to the Cathedral and is a touching and beautiful part of the Christmas market.

Donated by Clinton Devon Estate each year and put up by Heaver brothers and Sherwoods, the tree stands outside the cathedral from November 12th until 12th night, 5th January 2020.

For those unable to visit the cathedral, online memory stars can be dedicated and then shared with friends and family further afield. The Light up a Life services are held all across Exeter, Mid and East Devon and are designed to bring comfort for those finding the festive season challenging.

In addition, the charity will hold bucket collections at InExeter festive events, and collect online donations through the InExeter website.

Sarah Smith, Hospiscare ‘In Memory Manager’ said; “Hospiscare is delighted to have been chosen as InExeter’s charity partner; it is a wonderful opportunity and we are very grateful. Partnerships like this allow Hospiscare to highlight the services and expert care we provide as well as draw attention to the ways people can support us if they wish to.”

Ann Hunter, InExeter Manager said; “Teaming up with a charity is something that InExeter is proud to do. There are so many great causes that need the spotlight shone on them and this year we are pleased to be supporting Hospiscare, who provide an incredibly valuable service in our community.”
