InExeter paid a visit to the charity shop to find out more about this important charity that funds research to beat heartbreak from heart and circulatory diseases and their risk factors.
Speaking to Manager Josie, it is easy to see how much the shop’s volunteers are valued. With some of them working with the charity for over 10 years it is clearly a great place to work. Josie said; “The shop’s volunteers help with everything from merchandising on the shop floor and giving great customer service at the till to sorting and pricing the generous donations we are given in the back office. It is an extremely varied role and we are so lucky to have such a great team here.”
Not only does the shop support vital funding for the charity but it also invests in it’s staff with further learning such as opportunities to study for a free NVQ with Derby College. They also offer learning placements with the Global Language School as well as student placements all year round.
The British Heart Foundation also work with Universities on a campaign called ‘Packed for good’. The campaign has been rolled out in over 70 colleges and universities in the UK, providing donation bags and donation points, or kerbside collections for students – helping to reduce waste costs and the environmental impact of the university or college.
