Our Charity of the Month is Kidney Research UK which is situated on on Fore Street. Kidney Research UK is a charity that funds research that focuses on the prevention, treatment and management of kidney disease. Founded in 1961 the charity aims to improve patient care and raise awareness of kidney disease as well as helping to fund kidney transplants.
InExeter paid a visit to their city centre branch and spoke with store manager Darryl Hagley about why he supports this incredibly important charity.
“I have been working for Kidney Research UK for over 11 years and I love it. The job is incredibly rewarding, and I like being able to give back to the community. I work along side one paid part time member of staff and 20 volunteers, one of which has undergone a kidney transplant.”
“We are supported greatly by the local community, especially students which is really encouraging as we rely heavily on donations, be it for store stock or people’s time. We have some great volunteers that support us, some carry out house pick ups of small furniture while others help out on our shop floor and sorting stock.”
The Exeter branch excepts small electrical items, small furnishings, clothes, CDs, DVDs, Books and accessories and other household goods.
As well as supporting Kidney Research UK through shopping in their stores, you can also check out their Facebook page to keep an eye all the local branch is doing to support this national charity. To find out more about Kidney Research UK, visit www.kidneyresearchuk.org/
