Meet the face with Russell Courtney, branch manager of Chandos in Princesshay

Tired of travelling, Russell was in search of a base and in 2017 found it as branch manager of Chandos Deli in Princesshay. We caught up with him to discover more about the deli with a dedicated following.

Established in Bristol on Chandos Street in 1992, Chandos has continued to go from strength to strength, now with six locations across the South West.  The delis have a huge range of quality produce on offer as well as homemade treats and freshly made sandwiches which are a lunch time hit, especially Southernhay businesses who when 12 o’clock hits are lined up ready for lunch.

Russell loves his role saying: “I really enjoy working here. It’s a great time for independent cafes and artisan products and at Chandos we work with some amazing local producers to offer fantastic choice to our customers. We use Dart Fresh for fruit and veg based near Darts Farm, M.C Kelly who are based in Crediton for meat, Willy’s chocolate, based in Cullompton, Butter Bike Co, an Exeter based peanut butter company, Emma’s Bread based on Exeter Quay and delicious Exeter Gin. We are very lucky to be able to work with all of these incredible suppliers.”

Russell has many favourites at Chandos some of which include sweet potato falafel served with homemade hummus and radish, smashed avocado and bacon sandwiches as well as their signature salads and pizzas which are made from scratch.

Chandos offer a catering service for both private and corporate events which showcases the deli’s fabulous range of produce and relaxed style. The deli also hosts wine tasting evenings giving customers the chance to enjoy a few wonderful wines and tapas that is made on site.

You will also find honey for sale made by Princesshay’s very own bees. One of Russell’s favourite moments at Chandos was being interviewed by the BBC showcasing the honey and Princesshay’s rooftop garden.

From winter warmers such as soups and stews to scrumptious sweet treats like their incredible billionaire’s shortbread, Chandos on Roman Walk in Princesshay is home to amazing food that is delivered with outstanding personal service daily.
