Meet the Face with The Stand Off

Owned by local professional rugby legend Gareth Steenson (‘Steeno’), retired player, Carl Rimmer and Matthew Reynolds, The Stand Off which opened in October 2018 started life on a much smaller scale, as a simple converted garage at the home of Gareth Steenson, one of the world’s leading fly-halfs (hence the name The Stand Off, which was a traditional name for the fly-half position). Now on Longbrook Street this Irish roots bar and restaurant is turning into a firm favourite with sports fans and foodies alike.

Offering a wide selection of great homecooked food using locally sourced ingredients including meat from their supplier, Hartnell Fresh Foods, which is situated just across the street, The Stand Off supplies its diners with a spread of traditional pub favourites, delicious specials, Sunday roasts and much more.

As well as great food, the bar is also full to the brim with great beers and of course the best Guinness around! With many beers, ales, ciders and Guinness on tap, as well as a great selection of spirits and wines, this is a great place to try something new or simply enjoying your favourite tipple.

For those wanting to sit and enjoy a spot of sport, the restaurant area offers the only table service match day experience. You can book and guarantee a table to watch the game on one of the seven large TVs throughout the venue as well as a giant projector. The Stand Off is, of course, passionate about rugby but they also aim to show as many live sports as they can.  As well as showing the games, you may also find a few Exeter Chief players in and on any given day, co-owners Gareth Steenson and Carl Rimmer can often be found behind the bar serving a pint or two!

With special events (such as dinners with players and speakers), a welcome feel, great food, sporting atmosphere and a family friendly feel, The Stand Off is a key venue for the city and is becoming ‘The Clubhouse’ of the city centre. The bar and restaurant will also be reaching out more to students in the future during weekday nights and is already a welcome venue for many of the University’s societies.

If you are looking for the perfect venue for any corporate event or private celebration, The Stand Off offers seating for 150+ theatre style and over 280 standing with drinks and menu options to suit your requirements as well as the full use of the TVs, projector and PA system for any presentation needs.

This city centre venue is going from strength to strength.
