Summer of Independents - Terms and Conditions

  1. By entering this competition (the “Competition”) you agree to these terms and conditions.
  2. The Competition is open to all United Kingdom residents aged 18 or over except for the employees of The Promotor, their families, agencies or anyone else associated with this Promotion.
  3. The Competition opens at 00.01am GMT on 4th July 2017 and closes at 5pm GMT on 11th August 2017 (the ‘Qualifying Period’).
  4. To partake in this Competition you must fill in the nomination form voting for your favourite independent business.
  5. You can only nominate levy paying independent businesses in the Exeter BID (business improvement district) area. A map of the area can be found here (link to BID map on
  6. There is no limit on the number of times one person can enter and levy payers are able to enter themselves.
  7. A correctly submitted vote by a member of the public, entitles the voter to be entered into a prize draw for the chance to win a £100 gift voucher (the ‘Reward’) for the business voted for by the entrant.
  8. The winner of the public vote will be selected at random and notified within 5 working days of the draw.
  9. The public vote draw will be made on 14th August.
  10. The Reward is non-refundable and non-transferable. There is no cash alternative. The Promoter reserves the right to substitute the reward (or any part thereof) for one of its choosing should the original be unavailable due to circumstances outside of its control.
  11. The ten businesses with the highest number of nominations will be shortlisted and visited by a mystery shopper who will rate each business using a set criteria. A judging panel will choose the winning business based on the mystery shopper findings and original nominations from the public vote.

  15. The Promoter reserves the right, at its sole discretion to, (i) cancel, terminate, modify, vary or suspend this Promotion and any reward, in whole or in part, at any time (ii) cancel or refuse customers entry (iii) amend these terms and conditions, and will use reasonable endeavours to notify changes to customers.
  16. These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law and the English courts shall have exclusive jurisdiction in the event of a dispute.
