With the welcome signs of spring appearing, Exeter’s vibrant city life is on-hand to keep our calendars full to the brim this March. From Oscar-winning films to an evening with a strident Shepherdess, Exeter delivers. Here’s just a brief overview of what’s on this month.
Space: Light and Sound Show
5th to 7th March
Exeter’s landmark building will be transformed into a light and sound extravaganza for three days this March. Between the 5th-7th the interior of the cathedral will be filled with light and music to create a visual spectacle suitable for all ages. The display will be produced by artistic collaboration Luxuralis and will catapult its spectators through the hemisphere, around the moon and back again.
Music in the galleries: Devon Philharmonic Orchestra
For one night only the RAMM are inviting members of the public to join them for an enchanting exploration of the museum enhanced by specially commissioned music performed by the Devon Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus. Their music has been carefully crafted and inspired by the wonderful objects in the museum’s collections, so the RAMM are encouraging you to stroll through the museum and stumble across the spectacular sounds of the orchestra.
An Evening with Amanda Owen – Adventures of the Yorkshire Shepherdess
A Shepherdess with an incredible story. Amanda Owen in her new intimate show shares her heart-warming tale of her remarkable farming, family life in North Yorkshire. Managing 1000 sheep and bringing up 9 children, Amanda lives a life almost forgotten by the modern world. With startling honesty the shepherdess recounts her experience in a funny and informative way; a tale which has captured the nation’s hearts and is bound to tug at your heart strings.
Phil Wang: Philly Philly Wang Wang
On the back of a sell-out 2018 tour and hot off an Edinburgh Fringe run that sold out in advance, Phil “Philly Philly Wang’ Wang returns to Exeter with his newest and ever so silly show. Through his exploration of sex, romance, politics and his mixed British-Malaysian heritage, Phil explores the modern sense of self in a smart but ridiculous show that will leave you smiling.
1st March – 12th March
Parasite, the winner of 4 Oscars and 2 Baftas, is being screened at the Phoenix this March. A tale where riches and rags cross-paths in the most remarkable way, this award-winning film presents a story in which household peace is cast aside for greed, savagery and an exhilarating battle of dominance.
The Vivienne and Baga Chipz show
The astounding winner of Ru Paul’s drag race, The Vivienne alongside the notorious Baga Chipz take to the stage to create an unforgettable 90-minute whirlwind show. From amazing vocals to outrageous hilarity and a guest appearance from the one and only Donald Trump himself, it is a crazy spectacle not to be missed.
So, whether you want to lose yourself in the wonderful tales of life in the Yorkshire hills or board a rocket-ship to Mars, Exeter has a plethora of activities for all ages to immerse themselves in this March – there’s excitement around every corner.
